Your experience of the work capability assessments
For too long, we have been aware of the issues that exist for disabled people who have to go through an often long and complicated process of being assessed for benefits they are entitled to.
The process can be particularly difficult for those with fluctuating or hidden conditions – a situation many stroke survivors can be found in.
In order to lobby for improvements, we would like to hear what your experience is or has been like.
We have put together a questionnaire to find out what your experiences are of the assessment process for the Employment Support Allowance.
Please complete the questionnaire by 26 February. There will be a free prize draw of a £50 voucher for one lucky respondent.
Background
Since 2008, the Employment Support Allowance (ESA) has replaced Incapacity Benefit (IB). New applicants who are successful will receive ESA and all existing recipients of IB are being moved onto the ESA benefit.
However, all applicants must first undergo the Work Capability Assessment (WCA). A number of disability charities have expressed concerns over the WCA and are reporting that far too many disabled people are being deemed fit for work.
