Know Your Blood Pressure (KYBP)

Did you know that 40 per cent of strokes could be avoided if high blood pressure was controlled?

Go to our KYBP events page to find a blood pressure testing event near you!

The Stroke Association runs the KYBP campaign with partners such as Rotary International, the Ambulance Service Network, and St Andrew's First Aid (in Scotland) to offer free blood pressure tests to members of the public.

Become involved in this campaign by organising an event in your local area! By testing blood pressure you can help communicate important stroke prevention messages to the public. The national KYBP day for 2012 is Saturday 28 April, but you can run a blood pressure testing event at any time throughout the year.

We provide everyone organising a KYBP event with Event Guidelines which include practical advice and promotional materials as well as ongoing support to make running your event even easier.

Register here to hold a Know Your Blood Pressure event.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) testing

If you choose to run a KYBP event you are under no obligation to offer AF testing. You should only do so if you have the capacity and feel confident in measuring heart rates.

If you do not have access to ECG equipment you should consider, when deciding whether to offer AF testing, whether the benefits of identifying people with possible AF outweighs the risks of telling people without having the equipment to confirm a diagnosis.

Blood pressure machines

We would like to thank Omron Healthcare UK for their gift of blood pressure monitors for our screening events. You can purchase a blood pressure monitor from www.strokeshop.org.uk. Blood pressure machines should always be properly calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
