The National Audit Office Report
In 2005 the National Audit Office produced one of the most comprehensive reports on stroke - Reducing Brain Damage: Faster access to better stroke care.

The report found that:

  • approximately 110,000 strokes occur in England every year
  • around 20,000 TIAs occur in England every year
  • at least 300,000 people in England live with moderate to severe disabilities as a result of stroke
  • stroke care costs the UK economy over £7 billion every year.

It also made a number of key recommendations that we fully support, and you can download a full copy of the report from the National Audit Office website

The Public Accounts Committee Report
In 2006 The House of Commons' Public Accounts Committee questionned senior Civil Servants at the Department of Health on stroke care. The Public Accounts Committee then produced their own report - Public Accounts Committee report (1179 kb) [pdf]

The Government then made a formal response to the Public Accounts Committee's report - Government response to PAC (127 kb) [pdf]
