Implementation of the Stroke Strategy

Stroke Improvement Programme

Primary Care trusts have responsibility for implementing the Stroke Strategy but the driving force behind this is the newly created Stroke Improvement Programme.

The Stroke Improvement Programme (SIP) was set up to provide national support for local improvement of stroke and TIA services. It is an NHS initiative to support the development of Stroke Care Networks and the implementation of the National Stroke Strategy.

In addition to the programme of support and development for Stroke Care Networks, SIP provides regular educational events and conferences, and undertakes national improvement projects.

SIP provides a wide range of expertise on how to begin, manage and sustain service improvements that benefit patients and staff. SIP works closely with the Department of Health, the Stroke Association, and other organisations working in the stroke field.
