Bonny Blake's welfare grant

Bonny was an exceptionally active 47 year old. She worked in a Special Care Baby Unit, was studying for her next medical qualification, and played squash for her county. As her sister told us, "She was never one for sitting watching telly."

Bonny had a stroke in November 2000 which brought an end to her hectic schedule. She was told she would never walk again, but, perhaps unsurprisingly, her will and determination means that she can not only walk again, but she can also drive.

A Stroke Association welfare grant provided Bonny with a SaeboFlex stimulation glove. Bonny told me how the glove works, "The glove is designed to stimulate the muscles in my hand and fingers while I do special exercises. I can now use my hand again. I can now pick things up, put things down... which means I can do far more for myself again."

The glove is giving Bonny confidence that she might one day make a full recovery.

Overcoming the disabling paralysis caused by stroke is something many stroke survivors work very hard to achieve. If you are at all able to spare a gift today you could help provide a state of the art glove to help someone like Bonny regain use of their hand, and help them towards a full recovery.
