Carers Appeal 2009
“I still have days when I love her like I used to…but I don’t know how I can continue like this, with what feels like half a life for me.” - anonymous posting to the TalkStroke Forum.
It is vital that we at The Stroke Association do everything we can for the people who are perhaps the most undervalued and unappreciated members of our society. Carers.
One way in which we support carers is through our online TalkStroke Forum, which brings people affected by stroke together and gives them the opportunity to share their experiences and find comfort through knowing they are not alone.
Carers like Jean who have devoted much of the last ten years to ensuring her husband Jim - who had a severe stroke in 1991 - leads a full and independent life, are living proof that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Today Jean says:
“The National Stroke Helpline is brilliant. They helped me to plan Jim’s rehabilitation and to find local services to help him.”
The Stroke Association is determined to help more people like Jean and Jim rebuild their lives after the trauma and distress of stroke. With over 450,000 stroke survivors in the UK who require support with daily living are you able to support us so we can be there for the people who need us?
£10 a month could help us maintain and improve the TalkStroke forum – a lifeline for carers struggling to cope after stroke.
£20 donation today could help us to train Information, Advice and Support Co-ordinators to visit people in their homes after stroke and provide the expert advice and emotional support that helps them to cope and rebuild their lives.
A substantial and important gift of £30 could fund The National Stroke Helpline to give 2 people like Jean the practical support and advice she needed - donate now
