Legacies make a real difference
Thanks to the gifts that we receive in supporter's Wills each year, we're able to help thousands of patients and families who might otherwise go unaided.
· £200 is enough to fund a welfare grant
· £2,000 will help pay for a print run of one of our information leaflets
· £20,000 will contribute to the running of a local office or research project.
Legacies rebuild lives
When Janet was 33 she suffered a severe stroke that left her paralysed down her left side and using a wheelchair.
Because his mum was so ill Janet’s 12-year-old son, Glynn, did all the shopping, cooking and cleaning, and cared for his mum and little sister, Kerry-Marie. He bore this enormous responsibility for more than two years, until a support worker applied to The Stroke Association for a Welfare Grant on the family's behalf.
Janet told us about how our help had improved her and her children’s quality of life, “The Stroke Association awarded me a grant for a combination microwave oven. It wasn't expensive but it’s made such a difference. I’m now able to cook meals for my family and I feel like a real mum again.”
Now that Janet can play a bigger part in family life everyone has benefited. She’s making fantastic progress in her recovery and Glynn and Kerry-Marie can enjoy being children again.
