Dealing with foreign assets in your Will
Stroke Association relies on the kindness and vision of those who remember us in their Wills to fund much of our vital work.
As more and more people buy property and own assets abroad they may end up making these part of their generous gifts in the future.
We feel strongly that in order to avoid any complicated and sometimes expensive problems that may result when overseas assets are part of a person’s estate, anyone thinking of buying, or who currently owns assets or is planning to move abroad, should seek legal advice when writing their Will.
This may involve using a solicitor who has knowledge of the probate laws of the specific country to make sure that the assets are accurately dealt with, so as to prevent possible problems for your executors.
