Fundraiser of the Month - January 2012

Please join us in congratulating Lesley Mckenzie, our January Fundraiser of the Month!

Lesley and friends posing in Stroke Association shirts while raising moneyLesley (second from the right) wanted to fundraise for The Stroke Association after her Dad had two strokes last year, leaving him with a weakness in his right side and very little speech.

The challenge was a team 30 mile sponsored row with Ancholme Rowing Club, a fundraising event which has raised a fantastic £1,112.25.

Lesley says, 'Dad’s stroke had a huge impact on his and my Mum’s quality of life, as it stopped him doing things he most enjoyed. Not being able to drive means he relies on others and this causes him great frustration, and often means they are both trapped at home feeling isolated.

'For a long while Dad would not have visitors, but attending the local stroke group has really helped them both to socialise again and talk to others in the same situation.

'Another in our team lost her grandma to a severe stroke, so it’s a cause really important to us all. We’ve been training hard with members of the Ancholme Rowing Club in Brigg, who have given up their time and equipment to enable us to do this.'

We would like to thank Lesley and the rest of the team for their fantastic fundraising efforts.

Lesley was nominated by the North East regional fundraising team.
