Fundraiser of the Month - November 2011

Eliza with her mum Liz Please join us in congratulating Liz Thomas and Eliza Cooke, our November Fundraisers of the Month!

Liz and Eliza took part in the Stroke Association’s London Halloween Howler 5K fancy dress fun run and have so far raised a staggering £4,508 (including Gift Aid) in sponsorship.

The mother and daughter team took part in the event to help raise public awareness of child stroke. Eliza herself suffered a serious stroke in 2008, aged 10 leading to complete left side paralysis but she has thankfully made a good recovery.

Liz and Eliza utilised social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to promote their JustGiving page and posted frequent updates for their supporters to see. Liz also sent each supporter a personal thank you to ensure each donor knew how much their contribution was appreciated.

Liz said, "So many people had been so shocked by what happened to Eliza, 'Children don’t have strokes – do they?', and so happy that she has recovered, that they want to do something to help, which explains the huge generosity."

Liz’s sister and son also took part in the event and have both also raised substantial amounts in fundraising.

At the event, Eliza was joined by four of her friends who were all dressed up as different animals, with painted faces and animal costumes. Eliza’s friends have been stalwart supporters over the four months she spent in hospital, so they were determined to be there and take part.

We would like to thank Liz and Eliza for their exceptional fundraising and all of their very generous supporters.
