Byker Bridge Abseil – were you too chicken?
18 November 2009
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday 17 October for the first ever abseil from Byker Bridge, an iconic local landmark in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Over 100 people proved they weren’t too chicken on the day and raised over £16,000 for stroke survivors – an amazing amount!
There was a fantastic atmosphere with plenty of friends and family coming along to support, along with the chickens, sheep and goats at Ouseburn Farm where the abseilers landed.
A huge thank you to Ouseburn Farm for letting us use their facilities.
Thank you also to Newcastle City Council and of course all of the staff and volunteers who helped out – it would not have been possible without their fantastic support on the day.
Finally, some comments from our intrepid abseilers:
- “Awesome”
- “It was the greatest”
- “Best 4 seconds of my life”
- “All volunteers were brilliant”
- “Was a fantastic experience”
- “Atmosphere was great”
- “Brilliant – keep up the good work”
Watch out for news on our scary Halloween Abseil coming to Newcastle in 2010.
