Fundraiser of the Month - August 2009
30 July 2009

Every year The Stroke Association is supported by the fundraising efforts of thousands of people who all go ‘the extra mile’ to raise much needed funds. We would like to recognise this through our Fundraiser of the Month Award.
Please join us in congratulating Phil McCorry, Nick McCorry, Ian Allen and Matt Hellier - also known as The Bexhill Rowers, our August Fundraisers of the Month.
The Bexhill Rowers have a connection to stroke through their family members. Also, whilst at sea, Matt’s auntie had a TIA and the landlord of the club where Matt works lost his mother to stroke.
The Bexhill Rowers have raised funds by taking part in bungee jumps, by charging £10 for people to have their name on their boat plus a series of collections, and a series of 24 hour rowing sessions in shopping centres.
They also ran (and won) the Hastings Half Marathon, ran the BUPA Great South Run, took part in a charity wax, a 24 hour aerobics class and organised scratch cards and raffles.
The Bexhill Rowers trained for a year, fundraised for a year and spent 69 days at sea. Their commitment is long term and they use every opportunity to get good press coverage for The Stroke Association in all of their activities.
Their journey across 3,500 miles of the Indian Ocean meant rowing through shark infested waters, 24/7 with only two hours sleep. They did not see land for much of this time and they are now world record holders.
We would like to thank them for all their commitment and support and present them with a Certificate of Achievement.
The Bexhill Rowers were nominated by Chris Wynn, Regional Fundraising Manager, South East.
