Style for Stroke raises over £700

11 December 2009

Last week’s Evening of Style raised nearly £800 for The Stroke Association. Jane Egan of Designer Desires organised a Fashion Show on Thursday 26 November at the High Tide in Porthcawl in order to raise much-needed funds for local stroke survivors and their families.

A showcase of clothes from Designer Desires, a bazaar of quirky, stylish gifts and a comic interlude from the legendary Owen Money, who himself suffered a stroke, made for a fantastic evening combining fashion, fun and fundraising.

Jane Egan decided to organise a Fashion Show following her father suffering a major stroke earlier this year.  She was keen to organise something to both recognise the support that The Stroke Association gave to her and her father but also to raise funds to support more stroke survivors and their families who find themselves in a similar situation.

Stroke survivors from the nearby Stroke Association Communication Support Group in Bridgend, agreed to model in the Fashion Show to highlight the need to raise awareness of stroke.

Louise Bennett, Fundraising Manager for Wales at the Stroke Association said:

‘It was a fantastic evening and so worthwhile. The clothes were fantastic and, as ever, Owen Money went down very well with the audience. We were delighted to raise £800.’

A huge thank you must go to Jane herself, to all the volunteers who supported Jane in putting on this event, to Owen Money and his daughter Katie for their support and to the stylists Elaine Boddy and Lisa Pauley-Cordes of Green & Brown and the models from Kirstie Howells Model Agency, who all gave their time and support free of charge.
