Trick or Treat Abseil Weekend casts a spell on Dudley Zoo and Castle

05 November 2008

Dudley Castle abseilers

As the rain poured down and the wind howled around us we couldn't help but wonder if our midday to midnight abseil was going to be a wash out.

But as our intrepid abseilers started to flood through the Castle Gates we knew that we had a successful event on our hands.

Over 600 people faced their fears and braved the 70ft drop into the eerie darkness of the castle.

Participants and supporters alike were entertained by Bridge Radio who provided regular updates and interviews with abseilers after they had completed their descent.

The Mayor Of Dudley supported us by dropping in to successfully complete a midday abseil.

Dudley Zoo and Castle organised several activities. The Ghost Walk led us through the dark and damp tunnels of the Castle Museum. If you looked closely you were sure to see the ghost of Lady Jane Grey who still haunts the Castle. The staff at Creature Features brought Chilli the Tarantula along and she was kind enough to introduce us to some of her friends including: Hissing Cockroaches, Wax Worms and Giant Snails.

The Territorial Army kindly volunteered their time to marshall the event and brief our abseilers before they took their final drop.

St John's Ambualnce ensured that we were all safe and sound.

All in all a fantastic time was had by everybody.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this possible.
