Case study: The City Bridge Trust

The City Bridge Trust is currently funding our Service for People of Working Age with Stroke in London. In 2005 the trust awarded us a grant of £74,000 to be paid in yearly instalments over a period of three years.

Stroke is often seen as something that only affects older people. However, almost 25 per cent of strokes in the UK happen to people under the age of 65. For this reason The Stroke Association are running pilot projects that offer support to people who are under 65 and have had a stroke throughout the country.

The London service carries out important outreach, advocacy, and awareness raising work. The Service Co-ordinator has created a volunteer Buddy Scheme and Befriender Service. These schemes allow people who have had a stroke to use their experience to assist other, more recent, stroke survivors in their recovery.

The City Bridge Trust has been the sole source of funding for this service until recently. We are now looking for further funding to expand this service.
