Case study: The Sir James Knott Trust
In July 2006 The Sir James Knott Trust generously awarded a grant of £3,000 to help The Stroke Association develop its Stroke Services Training Scheme in the north east. Stroke is a critical problem in this area, with more than 9,000 people who have had a stroke being admitted to hospital each year.
We have developed a Stroke Services Training Scheme aimed at staff in care homes and the statutory health and social care sector. The training utilises The Stroke Association’s broad knowledge and experience of stroke to enable participants to develop their care practice. The programme consists of a number of modules covering the psychological, physical and social needs of stroke patients.
The grant from The Sir James Knott Trust has enabled us to offer two additional, open-access training courses free of charge, with another to take place in Gateshead in June. This will help us to raise the profile of the new scheme in the region, and help it to become self-financing. Feedback from the training sessions has been very positive, with all 26 participants commenting that they would recommend the training to others.
