Derbyshire Stroke Clubs Networking

Stroke Clubs in Derbyshire have an annual networking day that is facilitated by Mary Smith, the PCT Stroke Co-ordinator. The clubs chose to have a session of drumming therapy which certainly attracted attention in the Revive Centre where the event was held

Lincoln Stroke Club 30th Anniversary

Lincoln Stroke Club is one of the oldest stroke clubs in the country.

The club recently celebrated its 30th year of service to people in Lincoln affected by stroke. Members enjoyed an evening meal at The Bentley Hotel followed by musical entertainment. Guests include the Mayor and Sherrif of Lincoln, Christine Bell Regional Information Officer for The Stroke Associatio, members of local Rotary Clubs who provide club transposrt and the clubs founders.


Volunteer and Stroke Club Conference

DrummingOver 40 people attended a conference for Stroke Association Volunteers and Stroke Club Organisers at The Braunstone Civic Centre in Leicester on 23 March 2009.

Guest Speaker David Taylor MP spoke of the growth of stroke services in Leicestershire and Nationwide and of the benefits and generosity of volunteering.

Delegates also attended workshops on stroke awareness and prevention, communication skills and driving after stroke

The highlight of the afternoon was a drum circle. This was enjoyed by both staff and delegates


Leicester working age long-term support group

4Ward Strokes party
The Leicester Working Age Stroke Group is now called 4Ward Strokes and meet monthly at The Braunstone Civic Centre, Braunstone Town Leicester. 

The group plan to include Extend exercises in all of their meetings and would like to thank The East Midlands Cardiac and Stroke Network for funding some equipment and training for this.

Derby Younger Strokes Contact Group

This group  Stroke Association long-term support group will meets monthly, either in the Revive Healthy Living Centre in Chaddesden, Derby, or in another social venue. Contact Mary W on 07753 681620


Ashbourne Stroke Club Award

Ashbourne and District Stroke Support Group were awarded an Excellence in the Community Award by Derbyshire County Council for the work that they have done with stroke survivors and carers in Ashbourne. Congratulations to the club for this well deserved award.


Parklands Stroke Club
from Long Eaton enjoyed their annual Brass Band concert which took place on Friday 22 May. Long Eaton Silver Prize Band played all the old favourites,
