Volunteering in the East Midlands

Find out about volunteering for The Stroke AssociationThere are a wide range of volunteering opportunities available with The Stroke Association in The East Midlands. Help make a difference to people affected by stroke by sparing a few hours to support our work.

We currently have the following opportunities:

Fundraising
The East Midlands Fundraising department welcome volunteers, to help us generate essential funds to help more people affected by stroke. They have opportunities in this important area of our work across the region. If you are looking for something a little different then become a fundraising volunteer in the East Midlands. To find out more call 0115 840 2683 or email Chris Radmall.

Stroke Clubs Telephone Liaison Volunteer
With over 50 stroke clubs in The East Midlands it can be difficult to give as much time as we would like to keeping in touch with the people who run them. This volunteer would help to do that by making occasional telephone contact. The volunteer post will be based at The Nottingham office, initially for one day per month. Call Christine on 0115 9691169 ext 53294 or email Christine Bell.

Communication Support Service
If you would like to volunteer with a service that supports people with communication problems following stroke, our Communication Support Service currently has a vacancy in the Derby area. For further details call 01332 662679 or email Michael Tristram.

Media volunteers
Our media volunteers help us by working with the media to raise awareness of stroke and The Stroke Association. To find out more email volunteer co-ordinator Lucie Riches

Over 40 people attended a conference for Stroke Association Volunteers and  Stroke Club Organisers at The Braunstone Civic Centre in Leicester on 23 March where guest Speaker David Taylor MP for North West Leicestershire and president of Ibstock Stroke Club spoke of the growth of stroke services in Leicestershire and Nationwide and of the benefits and generosity of volunteering.

Delegates also attended workshops on stroke awareness and prevention, communication skills and driving after stroke. The highlight of the afternoon was a drum circle. Photographs will follow soon.
