Long-term Support

Dysphasia supportStroke is a leading cause of severe, long-term adult disability with over a third of stroke survivors left dependant or moderately disabled requiring support, rehabilitation and nursing care.

People affected by stroke require long-term support as they work to regain their lives. During this time, they will often require services from both health and social care professionals. Early access to rehabilitation can restore movement, improve recovery and reduce delayed discharges.

Over the years, The Stroke Association has developed and delivered quality Life After Stroke Services to meet the varying needs of people affected by stroke. Our range of services has been developed with the user in mind and they are currently commissioned by both health and social care providers.

The Long-term Support Service is designed to reduce social isolation, promote emotional well-being and confidence, and encourage people towards self-help and individual responsibility for their own health.

The service provides support for stroke survivors and their carers to set up new groups offering a wide range of information and activities to meet local need. To ensure the viability of groups in the long term, The Stroke Association has developed a framework within which the groups are developed. Procedures and protocols ensure financial security and adherence to legislation.

We are committed to delivering quality rehabilitation services. This committment is underlined by our investment in an organisation-wide quality improvement programme towards continual service improvement and development.
