News from the East of England region

This page provides news updates about our East of England region.

An increase in commissioned services.

During 2010 we have continued to see an increase in our commissioned services across the region. Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire have additional Information, Advice and Support Services, there is now a Communication and Long Term support Service in Peterborough and Central and East Norfolk, and a team in West Norfolk which includes Information, Advice and Support, Communication and Long Term Support and Stroke Prevention.

We also have Long Term Support Services in Essex and Information, Advice and Support Services in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.

New Stroke Association voluntary groups in the region.

In addition to groups in the Colchester, Halstead, Stowmarket and Felixstowe areas we now have groups in Ipswich, Maldon, Peterborough, Downham Market and Attleborough.

Some of these groups are in the early stages of development and are currently planning a programme of activities that will benefit their members.

The groups are under the umbrella of The Stroke Association and run by volunteers, some of whom have had a stroke themselves. The groups offer long-term support in a friendly social setting, and a varied programme of activities promotes confidence, alleviates social isolation and offers valuable respite to carers.

New members are always welcome and if you feel that you could offer a few hours as a volunteer with any of the groups please contact our Long-term Support Co-ordinators, email our Helpline or telephone them on 0303 3033 100.

Long Term Support Support Service for Central and East Norfolk

Family support

We now have a Long-term Support service covering Central and East Norfolk. The co-ordinator is Rob Brodie. Rob will be looking at the long term provision in this area, and will be forming links with local stroke clubs and looking at the possibility of starting groups in areas where there is no current provision. Do get in touch with Rob if you would like to join a group either as a member or as a volunteer.

A New Communication Service for Norwich and South Norfolk

Dysphasia support

A new Communication Service has started in the Norwich and South Norfolk area. Our Communication Support Service works to improve communication in people who have difficulty speaking, understanding speech or writing because of a stroke.
