Three new voluntary groups in the region.

At the end of 2008, three new voluntary Stroke Association Stroke Support Groups opened in the East of England. The Stroke Association Colchester Support Group had it's first meeting in October, The Stroke Association Felixstowe Area Stroke Support (F.A.S.S.) launched in November, and The Stroke Association Halstead Firm Friends Stroke Club is also now up and running.

The groups are run by volunteers, some of whom have had a stroke themselves, and offer a lifeline to people who have been affected by stroke, as often the full impact of stroke is not realised until the person is discharged from hospital. The groups offer long-term support in a friendly social setting, and a varied programme of activities promotes confidence, alleviates social isolation and offers valuable respite to carers.

Stroke Development Service - Luton

November 2008 saw the launch of a Stroke Development Service for Luton, managed by our Stroke Development Officer, Rebecca Chatterton.  Rebecca is joined by Kishore Kaler, Family and Carer Support Co-ordinator to Asian Communities in Luton and Tyrone Sutherland, Family and Carer Support Co-ordinator to Luton African Caribbean Communities.
