Jersey

Every year, an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK. It is also the single most common cause of severe disability. More than 250,000 people in the UK live with disabilities caused by a stroke.

Jersey is no exception with 125 people having a stroke every year, and around 400 families coping with long-term disabilities.

The Stroke Association Information, Advice and Support Service in Jersey
Two members of staff are now employed in Jersey, providing a comprehensive long-term support service for stroke survivors and their families and carers.

The service offers valuable support by liaising with other organisations on the island and collecting and providing helpful information on the availability and provision of services for those affected by stroke. It also provides individual support by visiting clients who have self referred, or who have been referred by other services.

In addition, there is a group specifically designed to support people with communication disabilities.

Although tailored to local need, these services are based upon tried and tested models and are supported by the wider Stroke Association team.
