Young Stroke Service

There is a common misconception that strokes only happen to the elderly. This is not the case - of the 110,000 people in England who have a stroke each year, a quarter happen to people under the age of 65, often leaving them with moderate to severe disabilities.

The majority of those affected will have careers and families to support, and the priorities for them are getting back to work: for financial reasons, self esteem, rebuilding confidence and regaining independence.

People who have had a stroke and their carers need to be enabled to participate in paid, supported and voluntary employment.

The Service for people of working age is designed to provide information, emotional support and practical advice to people of working age, their families and carers. Our staff work alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals across health and social care to provide information and advocacy support for people of working age affected by stroke as they work towards regaining independence.
