The Stroke Association in Scotland

Stroke is the leading cause of adult impairment and disability in Scotland.
About 12,500 people have a stroke each year and of these a third will die, a third will recover well but a third will survive with one or more impairments, including physical, sensory, neurological and psychological.
The Stroke Association is the only charity solely concerned with helping everyone affected by stroke across the UK and our aim is to prevent stroke and reduce their effect through:
- supporting stroke survivors, carers and families through Information, Stroke Helpline, Online shop, Life After Stroke Grants and improving support to services such as independent advocacy
- supporting professional development and training
- campaigning for change including FAST (raising awareness of the signs of a stroke and the importance of dialling 999) and Know Your Blood Pressure, and
- supporting research into prevention, treatment, better methods of rehabilitation.
