Stroke rehabilitation

About a third of people who have had a stroke are left with disabilities. Rehabilitation is the process of overcoming or learning to cope with the damage the stroke has caused. It is about getting back to normal life and achieving the best level of independence you can.

Help and support are available to people who have had a stroke in the South West through The Stroke Association's Communication Support Service, which is a free and confidential service, and stroke clubs and support groups.

Communication Support Service
Because it is very common for a stroke to affect a person's communication skills The Stroke Association operates Communication Support Services to help people who have had a stroke and their families on aspects of communication.

Visit Communication Support Service for details of services in the South West, or contact our Helpline on 0845 3033 100 email info@stroke.org.uk

Stroke support groups

There are also over 60 stroke clubs and support groups across the South West, and many of these independent clubs are affiliated to The Stroke Association. Meetings give members a chance to socialise and share experiences with people who understand what they are going through and to take part in activities that can help with their ongoing recovery.

More information is available on Stroke clubs and support groups or you can contact our Helpline on 0845 3033 100 email info@stroke.org.uk who will be able to give you the details of your nearest club or group.
