Fundraising in Wales

Recent fundraising events in Wales have included skydives in Swansea and abseiling events at Newport Transporter Bridge and Wrexham Fire Tower. On this page you can find out more about local fundraising activities, and how to get involved, whether as a participant or a volunteer helping us to run our fundraising events.

Skydive for stroke - could you do it?

On 10 May, Nigel Hodson joined nine other thrill-seekers to Skydive for Stroke, as part of Europe-wide Stroke Awareness Day. Aged 53, Nigel is an Auctioneer of Antiques and Fine Arts in Pembrokeshire. Nigel had always dreamed of doing a parachute jump, but when he lost his leg following a motorbike accident in 1978, he thought his chances of ever achieveing his dream were dashed.

However, when the opportunity arose to do a tandem skydive Nigel decided to ask his doctor if he could get the go ahead to jump out of a plane - and the answer was yes!

"I have always wanted to do a parachute jump, and when my wife came home and said that The Stroke Association was looking for people to skydive for stroke, I couldn't resist such an opportunity." Nigel tells us.

Skydive for Stroke was organised as part of Stroke Awareness Day for Europe on 13 May, when there were a variety of activities across the country to raise awareness of stroke and the work of The Stroke Association.

If you think, like Nigel, that you are brave enough to jump out of a plane, then why not get in touch with Louise Bennett on 029 2052 4410 or email Louise Bennett to find out more, as skydives take place throughout the year at Swansea Airfield. Our next skydive will be held on Saturday 27 September
