Volunteer in Wales

If you are interested in volunteering for The Stroke Association, then we would love to hear from you. There are a variety of different opportunities available in locations across Wales.

If you would like to make a regular commitment for a couple of hours a week, then perhaps you would be interested in becoming a Communication Support volunteer. Or if you only have a few hours to spare every now and then, being an Information or Events Volunteer might suit you.

Below are details of some of the opportunities available, but if you would like further information please contact us.

Information and Media volunteers
We need volunteers to help us raise the profile and promote the work of The Stroke Association, by distributing our literature or by sharing personal experiences of stroke and representing The Stroke Association through media work. These roles do not require a regular commitment, just a little bit of your time every now and again.

Rehabilitation Support Service volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help at our Communication Support Groups, which help people who have been left with speech and communication difficulties following a stroke. Groups usually run for two hours a week in friendly, relaxed surroundings in locations across Wales. Similarly, volunteers are needed to help in our Day Services for people under the age of 65 who have been affected by stroke.

We also need volunteers to support the work done by our Family and Carer Support Service Co-ordinator, through befriending or telephone support. Anyone able to provide administrative support to the co-ordinators would also be welcomed.

For information about any of these volunteer opportunities, please contact Jayne Sims (South Wales) on 029 2052 4408 or Fliss Lightfoot (North Wales) on 01745 589746.

Fundraising Volunteers

Event volunteers
We are looking for people to help run registration desks, serve refreshments, marshal participants or traffic and count sponsorship money. We also need help promoting our events through poster campaigns and leaflet distribution.

Collection volunteers
We hold a number of collections each year at supermarkets, shopping centres, football grounds and other venues across Wales, and we rely on the support of volunteers to help us do this.
Contact us if you would like to help our collections raise vital funds for people affected by stroke.

Static box volunteers
To help us raise funds to support people affected by stroke, we are launching a new range of collection boxes which will be placed in local shops and pubs around Wales. We are currently recruiting a team of volunteers to place these boxes in suitable locations and regularly empty them.

In return, The Stroke Association will offer you full training, ongoing support and out of pocket expenses. For more information about this work, or for an informal chat about any of our fundraising volunteering opportunities, please contact Louise Bennett on 029 2052 4411 or email Louise Bennett
