Driving

CarA person who has had a stroke or TIA is not allowed to drive for the first month. Whether they can go back to driving after that depends on what long-term disabilities the stroke may have caused and what sort of vehicle they drive. A GP can give advice and arrange for the person to be assessed at a mobility centre if necessary.

If the person develops epilepsy because of their stroke, they won’t be allowed a licence for a normal car until they have been free of fits for one year, or five years for public-service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles.
