Swallowing assessment

Because the inability to swallow is a risk for other complications its proper assessment is very important

On admission to hospital most patients with stroke are now tested by the doctor or nurse to see if they can swallow properly or not. If at this stage a problem is found they will be referred to a speech and language therapist for a full assessment and advice on what to do.
