Type: Factsheets
Code: 01F1
A transient ischaemic attack (TIA) is similar to a full stroke, but the symptoms are temporary; lasting between a few minutes and 24 hours. A TIA is a warning sign that there may be a risk of a more major stroke in the near future. It should never be ignored - seek urgent medical attention immediately. This factsheet explains how to recognise a TIA, the tests and treatments that should happen afterwards and what you can do to reduce your risk of a further TIA or stroke.
