Referenced publications

The Stroke Association is committed to producing clear, accurate and unbiased information on stroke issues for stroke survivors and their families and friends. Our publications cover a breadth of information which can include details of medical procedures and drugs; rehabilitation therapies; health promotion; statistics; regulations; and contact details for useful organisations.

We do not conduct in depth research ourselves, but rely on professional bodies and other reliable sources to produce our information. These include:

  • organisations such as the Royal College of Physicians who produce Guidelines for care after stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack
  • reputable summaries of evidence-based research such as from the Cochrane Library or NHS Clinical Knowledge Summaries
  • reputable medical journals subscribed to by The Stroke Association for example BMJ, The Lancet, Stroke and Clinical Rehabilitation
  • reputable medical text books such as the British Medical Association’s New Guide to Medicines and Drugs and The Merck Manuals series.

Our core information materials consist of six leaflets, 40 factsheets and 12 resource sheets which will be reviewed at least every two years. As part of this process we will be making available details of the sources of information we have used.

From July 2009 when each leaflet, factsheet or resource sheet is reviewed, a referenced version of the publication will be listed on this page for download in Microsoft Word format. If you have any comments or questions about these references, please contact Paula de Souza, Stroke Information Services Manager (London) by emailing info@stroke.org.uk
