Preventing a stroke South Asian language versions

Most of us know that a stroke can happen to anyone at any time. However, what may be less well known is that people with a South Asian ethnic background are more at risk of suffering stroke than the general population.

The Stroke Association wanted to tackle this issue head-on and, with the help of a Section 64 grant from the Department of Health, we launched our Stroke Prevention: South Asian Communities project.

Since then, we have been raising awareness amongst people from South Asian ethnic backgrounds about the measures that they can take to reduce their risk of having a stroke.

We have now translated our Preventing a stroke leaflet into the five most common South Asian languages:Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and Gujarati, and downloadable PDFs of these leaflets are now available:

Preventing a stroke Bengali (2186 kb) [pdf]
Preventing a stroke Gujarati (1695 kb) [pdf]
Preventing a stroke Hindi (2138 kb) [pdf]
Preventing a stroke Punjabi (2379 kb) [pdf]
Preventing a stroke Urdu (2932 kb) [pdf]

We have also produced a new fact sheet about stroke in South Asian people which can also be downloaded:

Factsheet 32 Stroke and South Asian people (92 kb) [pdf]

In addition to producing these information materials we have also been working closely with partners such as the South Asian Health Foundation to ensure that the messages about stroke get to the hardest-to-reach communities.
