Equal Opportunities Policy

The Association expects all employees to treat each other equally and with respect.

Discrimination, harassment or unfair opportunity on the grounds of gender, marriage or civil partnership, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity leave, sexual orientation, disability, race, colour, ethnic background, nationality, religion or belief and age will not be tolerated. This is in line with the Equality Act 2010.

The Association wishes to ensure that a fair and sympathetic work environment exists for all employees, irrespective of an individual’s gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, belief, age and marital status.

Scope of the policy

The Association intends to apply this policy to recruitment, remuneration, training, staff development, promotion and all other aspects of employment. The policy will also be applied to the treatment of volunteers and people affected by stroke who are our service users, and all others from outside the Association with which the Association or its employees do business.

Breach of the policy

Any employee who breaches the Equal Opportunities Policy either in relation to discrimination or harassment will be subject to the Association’s disciplinary procedure as outlined in the Staff Handbook.

In serious cases such behaviour will be deemed to constitute gross misconduct and, as such, may result in summary dismissal.
