Londoners are being given a say on how stroke care is organised in the capital. Currently the standard of care varies across the capital and London has fallen behind international standards. Currently only around half of all stroke patients are even treated on a dedicated stroke ward.

First UK Stroke Forum Conference launched as biggest multidisciplinary stroke event
On 7 and 8 December, the first ever UK Stroke Forum Conference took place at the Harrogate International Centre attracting over 1,000 delegates from all over the UK and Europe. The event which was hosted by The Stroke Association, is being hailed as the biggest multidisciplinary event of its type as professionals from all stages of the stroke care pathway took part.
Britain's most admired charities 2006
These Charity Awards are an established part of the voluntary sector calendar and The Stroke Association was delighted to be nominated in three out of the four categories for the very first time. This is an excellent achievement and shows how The Stroke Association is working hard to help all those living with the effects of stroke.
Children's Appeal 2006
Up to 450 of those people who have a stroke each year are children.
Life After Stroke Awards 2006
On June 8th, The Stroke Association will be holding its annual Life After Stroke Awards at Claridges in central London. The event will be attended by a variety of celebrities who all want to recognise the tremendous achievements that individuals have made in overcoming the effects of stroke.

Singer songwriter Jenna Myles has re-recorded the Kate Bush single 'Running up that Hill' as part of her marathon challenge for this year's Official Charities.
Oddfellows grant to fund research
On Friday 7th April, The Stroke Association was awarded a cheque for over £20,000 from the Oddfellows society to fund research into communication problems after stroke. The presentation was made by Chairman Margaret Lickess and took place at The Stroke Association's regional office in City Hospital, Nottingham.
Media team wins Medical Charity of the Year
The Stroke Association media team were delighted to win Medical Charity of the Year at at an awards ceremony held by the Medical Journalists' Association.
Life After Stroke Awards 2005
On 26th April 2005, The Stroke Association held it's Life After Stroke Awards at the London Hilton, Park Lane. The star studded event was a huge success with celebrities such as Barbara Windsor and Honour Blackman presenting awards to the winners. A touching ceremony included video footage of the winners and speeches as they received their awards.

On Tuesday 26th April The Stroke Association will be announcing the winners of its Life After Stroke Awards at a star-studded ceremony, taking place at the Park Lane Hilton.
The Stroke Association's Fifth National Stroke Nursing Conference
The Stroke Association will be holding its Fifth National Stroke Nursing Conference on Wednesday 31st August 2005 and Thursday 1 September 2005. The event will be held at Harrogate International Centre and bookings are already being taken.

New Chief Executive for The Stroke Association
The Stroke Association has appointed Jon Barrick as its new chief executive. Jon took up his job on April 1st and succeeds Margaret Goose OBE, who retired after six years.
