Clint Eastwood "Makes their day"
18/03/2002
HOLLYWOOD legend Clint Eastwood is supporting the seventh e-xentric Celebrity Charity Golf Day to be held on Tuesday May 14, 2002 at the exclusive RAC Country Club in Epsom. Proceeds from the event go to The Stroke Association, the country's leading charity for stroke.
Clint Eastwood and Nancy Haley, whose Tehama Brand is taking America by storm, are fully committed to the day. Clint, one of Hollywood's greatest icons, is encouraging golfers and celebrities to join him in supporting e-xentric and help raise vital funds for the 300,000 people in England and Wales who are affected by stroke each year. Over the years many sporting stars and celebrities including Jennie Bond, Bill Beaumont, Andy Gray, John Conteh and Ronnie Wood have all attended the day.
Speaking about his decision to support the event, Clint Eastwood said: "When Ian McAllister approached Nancy Haley and asked if Tehama would support his efforts in raising money on behalf of The Stroke Association we readily agreed. Raising awareness of stroke and its effects, not only on the individual but also on their family and friends, is paramount in the efforts to eradicate the illness. Contributions to the event will assist Ian and his team in reaching their goal of raising even more money for The Stroke Association and help someone somewhere enjoy a better quality of life."
"We are planning for an even bigger and better event this year," says Ian McAllister, Chief Executive of e-xentric UK Ltd, who has been organising the golf days for seven years. "Last year the golf day raised almost £40,000 for The Stroke Association - a cause very dear to my heart. Not only does the day offer the chance to play an enjoyable round of golf whilst raising money to help those affected by stroke, there is an evening's entertainment with a luxury auction and raffle."
Every five minutes someone in England and Wales suffers a stroke. In fact, stroke is the third biggest killer and the number one cause of severe disability. It is the aim of The Stroke Association to provide practical support to stroke patients, their families and carers.
