The Stroke Association pays tribute to Patricia Neal

10/8/2010

Nikki Hill, Deputy Director of Communications at The Stroke Association says:  “It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Patricia Neal, who was our Honorary Vice President. Patricia was a talented actress who optimised what can be achieved after a stroke.

Patricia was the inspiration behind a pioneering scheme using volunteers to help people regain their speech and language skills after a stroke set up in the 1970s. These schemes, now called Communication Support Services, still help hundreds of people across the country who have problems communicating after a stroke. This nationwide network has given hope to stroke survivors and their families that recovery is possible.

Patricia was a key supporter of The Stroke Association whose honesty and bravery about her stroke inspired us all.”
