Response to Tony Blair's speech

26/09/2006

Laura Funnell, Deputy Director of Communications at The Stroke Association said:

"In summarising his government's achievements Tony Blair made reference to the largest ever hospital programme and rebuilding the NHS.

"Improvements in stroke services have been made but with an ageing population and stroke care costing the NHS a total of around £7 billion a year, more of this investment should go towards providing specialised stroke units in hospitals across the country. Providing life saving treatment is a priority for the estimated 150,000 people who have a stroke each year in the UK."
