Response to Picker Institute report
30/11/2006
The latest report from the Picker Institute, a patient focussed organisation, 'Assessing the quality of information to support people in making decisions about their health and healthcare' was launched on 20th November.
The study carried out on behalf of the Department of Health set out to determine the current quality of healthcare information and to assess the potential value of a system to accredit information providers.
Joe Korner, Deputy Director of Communications at The Stroke Association said:
"We welcome this study which echoes our recent campaign 'Nobody Told Me' highlighting the importance of information provision for stroke survivors on leaving hospital - something that is often lacking.
"The Stroke Association is calling for healthcare commissioners to make it clear who is responsible for dispensing this basic yet life saving information so that all stroke survivors are supported in their recovery and rehabilitation on discharge, wherever they live in the UK."
