Communication Support Service
During their hospital stay, patients have access to on-call help and care. However, on discharge they have to adjust suddenly to the impact of their stroke on their life back at home. The Communication Support Service is designed to maximise, as far as possible, the communication skills lost as a result of having a stroke. The service aims to help people living with communication problems to rebuild their confidence by providing them with opportunities to practise their skills within a safe and supportive environment. The service provides support and guidance to carers as they work towards new communication strategies for their partners or relatives. Carers receive respite while the stroke survivors attend groups or one-to-one support sessions in their own homes.
