Health Promotion Service

Promoting healthy living is very important in helping to prevent stroke, particularly in disadvantaged areas and groups. Healthy lifestyles and management of specific risk factors reduce the risk of an initial stroke, and the risk of a subsequent stroke. (National Stroke Strategy)

The Health Promotion Service is designed to reduce the expected number of strokes in the community. We work with individuals identified as being at risk of stroke, primary or secondary, along with their families.

Preventing just two per cent of strokes in England would save around £37 million in care costs.

The service provides intensive follow-up to those at risk, providing support towards making the necessary lifestyle changes in order to better manage the risk factors and decrease the chances of having a stroke.
