Representation and advocacy
Negotiating the benefits system or finding out about your employment rights can be a confusing process at the best of times. For stroke survivors, who may have complex communication and cognitive problems, it can be next to impossible.
We help people affected by stroke to access the support they need and to which they are entitled. This could involve filling in benefit claim forms – often an impossible task for people with aphasia – or negotiating with housing services to make modifications to their accommodation. We also work with employers to explain the needs of stroke survivors, and help them to make adjustments that will enable them to return to work.
Although representation and advocacy is provided as part of our Information, Advice and Support Service, it can also be commissioned as a stand-alone service.
