Back to Life Services

After a stroke, life is very different.

Among the million stroke survivors in the UK are athletes left unable to walk, professors who have lost the ability to read, computer programmers who no longer recognise numbers, receptionists who can’t speak.

Many stroke survivors fear they will never make a recovery or be able to do anything without the help of their carer.

But we know that people can, and do, get better after a stroke. Our Back to Life Services help stroke survivors to enjoy a better quality of life, to reintegrate into society and to face the future.

Our services are tailored to the needs and aspirations of each individual. The co-ordinator will work with clients to set personal goals, and provide the support they need to achieve them.

One person’s ultimate goal might be to return to work, another’s to catch a bus unaided. Others might take up a new hobby or relearn something they thought they would never be able to do again.

We run stroke groups which help stroke survivors to cope without constant support from their families and carers and to build their confidence. At the group sessions, people are able to find out about the opportunities and options available to them.

Other Back to Life Services can include exercise-specific programmes for those who want to become more physically able as they return to normal life. We can easily adapt our Back to Life Services to suit local needs and priorities.
