Caring for people affected by stroke - What next?
This is a follow-up course for people who have attended the Caring for people affected by stroke course (CFPABS).
Aims
The delegates will develop an understanding of a person’s journey from the onset of the stroke to transfer home and beyond.
Objectives
By the end of the day participants will have an understanding and awareness of:
- Basic anatomy and physiology of the brain
- The different types of strokes that might occur
- The ideal stroke care pathway
- The roles of those involved in caring for the patient throughout their journey
- Diagnostic tests and their uses
- The FAST score and its purpose
- The mechanics of swallowing and what can go wrong
- Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding – to include patient care and feeding styles
- The need for a balanced diet and healthy nutrition.
