Research and Development Strategy Committee

The UK research environment is constantly evolving. For example, the laws that govern research are being updated, employment contracts for professional health staff are being revised, the structure of university funding is changing and the training programme for doctors is being improved. The Stroke Association needs to be informed and able to react to these changes, so that we can effectively fund research and advance the promotion of stroke research.

With these increasing demands upon The Stroke Association, a Research and Development Strategy Committee has been established and held its first meeting in January 2004. The Committee is chaired by a Trustee Honorary Officer, designated as Chairman of R&D, with a combination of lay and medical Trustees and Stroke Association staff as members. The Committee's focus is on the following tasks:

  • to develop and implement a research promotion strategy in relation to stroke illness

  • advising Council on research and development matters which relate to the Association's activities.
