Research Awards Committee
The Research Awards Committee (RAC) is chaired by a Trustee Honorary Officer, designated as Chairman. The majority of the members are non-Trustees, all of whom are expert researchers within their respective fields of stroke.
We have three service user members of the RAC, as well as a service user review panel of approximately 20 people who have been affected by stroke.
The Service User Review Panel are directly involved in the project grant adjudication process by undertaking the reviewing of applications for research project grants that are submitted to The Stroke Association.
Service users are asked to rank the applications in order of preference for funding. This rank is then combined with the ranking of the experts to decide which projects should be funded.
The full RAC meets twice a year. A selection of RAC members will attend the interviews of potential fellowship recipients.
The RAC is responsible for the following tasks:
- assessing grant award applications and fellowship applications, and
- making recommendations to Council to fund research, in relation to all aspects of stroke illness, that meets the Committee's quality standards.
