New funding for stroke research
25 May 2006
The UK Clinical Research Network and the Department of Health have launched eight new Local Research Networks that will support the delivery and conduct of clinical stroke research.
Each network will be tasked with increasing patient participation in stroke research as well as supporting workforce development, open and transparent communication and public involvement.
Funding of £300,000-£400,000 will be provided annually to each network to employ dedicated research nurses and similar staff that will support the clinical teams in hospitals, GP practices and the community, to facilitate involvement in stroke clinical studies.
Networks will work collaboratively, under the guidance of the UK Stroke Research Network (UKSRN) Co-ordinating Centre, to use this funding to it's full effect. They will also be encouraged to build on existing links with clinical and research support services in their local areas.
