TalkStroke terms and conditions

Participation in, and use of, all areas of TalkStroke and The Stroke Association website is at the user’s own risk. In using TalkStroke, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set out here.

All views and information, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted are individual and should not be interpreted as the views, policy or advice of The Stroke Association. Where views or information are those of The Stroke Association this will be clearly identified as such by the charity.

Always consult your doctor before making any health related decisions that could affect you or those that you care for.

Code of conduct

Please ensure that your postings do not include:

  • Advertising for products or services.
  • Donation or fundraising requests.
  • Legal or medical advice.
  • Telephone numbers or other contact details, unless these have been posted with the agreement of The Stroke Association.
  • Content that is obscene, defamatory or libellous, vulgar, sexually orientated, hateful, threatening, or in violation of any laws or good morals and practice.


When you sign up to use TalkStroke, you undertake to indemnify and hold harmless The Stroke Association against all costs and expenses incurred as a result of any such actions by you. The above conditions apply to your choice of public name or ID as well as any messages that you post.

You can report any messages which you feel are inappropriate to this website by clicking report post’ at the end of the message in question.

When you sign up to use TalkStroke, you are agreeing that:

  • You understand and acknowledge that content posted on TalkStroke is the sole responsibility of the person who posted the content.
  • Any reference to third party organisations, their products or services does not imply endorsement by The Stroke Association. The Stroke Association aims to remove any such references from messages but has no obligation to do so.
  • The use of the message boards for gathering information for surveys and research studies, or similar projects, is prohibited unless prior permission has been given by The Stroke Association.
  • You will not transmit any chain letters, spam, or junk messages to other users.
  • You will respect the privacy and wishes of those users who you have been privately messaging. You must not pass on details to third parties (except The Stroke Association) without permission. 
  • That by sending or receiving a private message you consent to it being viewed by the The Stroke Association where The Stroke Association has been notified of a problem or a breach of these terms and conditions.
  • That, in accordance with the Home Office good practice guide for child protection on the internet, users of TalkStroke who are under 16 years old must be supervised by an adult when using this discussion forum.
  • You will not participate in mischievous or malicious behaviour which causes or could cause damage to The Stroke Association or our website or any computer systems on which this site resides.
  • You accept that where a breach of these terms and conditions occurs The Stroke Association reserves the right to take such action as it sees fit.


The Stroke Association reserves the right to edit or remove any messages that do not comply with these terms and conditions or which are deemed not to be
constructive to the overall purpose and mission of The Stroke Association.

Any communications or material that you transmit to, or post on TalkStroke or any other public area of The Stroke Association website, including any data, questions, comments or suggestions is, and will be treated as, non-confidential and non-proprietary information.

The Stroke Association has the right, but no obligation, to remove, edit, move or close any message or group of messages for any reason. The Stroke Association is not obliged to enter into any correspondence regarding the moderation of content on The Stroke Association website, discussion boards, chat room or creative sections.

The Stroke Association has the right to modify or delete any or all information related to a user, including deletion of that user’s account, without prior notice. In an instance where the decision has been made to ban a user The Stroke Association is under no obligation to explain such a decision or enter into correspondence regarding the decision.
