Essential information

How much time do I have to give?

This is up to you and depends on what you would like to do. Fundraising in your local community could be flexible and whatever time you are able to give is greatly appreciated. Other volunteer roles require a more specific time commitment and this is stated in the role description.

Can I claim expenses?

The Stroke Association values our volunteers highly and you should not be out of pocket as a result of your volunteering! We have an expenses policy and offer to reimburse any reasonable out of pocket travel costs whilst you are volunteering for us, plus any other out of pocket costs by arrangement.

Will I need to have an interview?

A number of volunteer roles do require an interview, but it will be more like a chat than a formal process. It will be an opportunity for you to find out more about the role and The Stroke Association, and for us to work out the best way to use your skills and interests to meet a current need.

Do I need to supply references?

Yes, please provide details of references on your application form. Further to this, for some roles, particularly those that involve working with stroke survivors, you will also undergo a criminal records disclosure check.

What skills and experiences do I need?

All of our roles require energy, time and enthusiasm! The role descriptions detail any specific or additional skills or experiences that you may need.

What support and training will I be given?

All Stroke Association volunteers receive an induction and, if necessary, will be given all the training and support necessary for them to feel confident in and able to carry out their role. All of the Association’s staff are able and willing to offer ongoing support and help.
