Atorvastatin

After my stroke I was put on a massive dose of atorvastatin. This continued to be prescribed after I went home. After a year, Ibegan to wonder why I was still on
It. When I googled atorvastatin I found out from the NHS website it should not be prescribed for strokes caused by a bleed. My stroke was caused by a bleed. Phoned doc, who agreed with me and took me off it immediately. She checked with the county’s stroke consultant and he said the same. Apparently, if a stroke is caused by a bleed atorvastatin can lead to the risk of a second stroke. Feel I have had. Lucky escape. I am not agin statins but that one,at such a high dose, was, clearly, not suitable.

Hi John, oh my goodness, I am so pleased you found out about Atorvastatin and have now come off it. I think that was terrible you have been left taking it for over a year. I was offered that when I had my stroke but because of my hypersensitive to most meds I declined as mine was also a blood clot in my brain not a bleed. I take Clopidegrel and I have terrible stomach pains constantly. I mentioned this to my Dr as I also suffer with gastro oesophageal reflux disease which has been much worse since starting Clopidegrel but was told just to carry on. I have constant pain and SF but trying my best to cope. I do hope you will feel much better now you have stopped the statin.wishing you all the best. Daisy

Thank you Daisy. I did feel better for coming off it. However, it is supposed to be fine for clots. I suspect it has some blood thinning element to it which makes it unsuitable for bleeds. My problem is that I do what doctors tell me to do. I just got concerned because I had been on it for so long.
