What is the UK Stroke Club Conference?

The UK Stroke Club Conference is an annual event that brings together those involved in running and volunteering at stroke clubs and groups. Each year the event has grown in success and numbers.

The event is an opportunity to:

  • network with like-minded people
  • hear the latest news from the stroke community
  • share experiences and ideas
  • find out more about the support available for groups and members.

Future events

The next UK Stroke Club Conference will take place on Friday 28 – Saturday 29 September 2018, at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. Invites and further information will be sent to the main contact of all clubs and groups in July 2018.

If you're not part of a club or group, or would like to attend an event as an individual, you may be interested in the UK Stroke Assembly. This event brings together those people affected by stroke to share their hopes and concerns in a UK-wide forum.

UK Stroke Club Conference 2017

The UK Stroke Club Conference 2017 took place on Friday 29 – Saturday 30 September 2017, at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham. Over 200 guests attended from 86 stroke clubs and groups.

Juliet Bouverie, our Chief Executive, gave the closing speech saying: "Volunteering and peer support are so important in improving recovery, health and wellbeing. And it’s fun!"

Talks and workshops

One of the highlights was the opening talk from Tom Solomon, Professor of Neurology at the University of Liverpool and author of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Medicine. He gave a fascinating talk about Roald Dahl’s links with the Stroke Association and how The BFG was inspired by his wife's communication difficulties after her stroke.

After dinner the North West Community Stroke Choir gave a moving performance, demonstrating how those with aphasia can gain so much from being part of a stroke choir.

Day two followed with a great variety of workshops and exhibition displays led by a team of stroke and community experts, sharing tips on how to welcome and support new members, sharing the load when running a group, and hands on activities including golf, felt making and clay.

If you have access, you can view them on the Volunteers Intranet.
