Charity Place Application

To apply for one of our charity places, please complete the ‘Charity Place’ application form at the bottom of the page. Please be as detailed as possible as to why you would like to run for us and how you plan to raise your pledged target.

We will be in touch in October to let you know if your application has been successful. Those who secure a place will need to pay a £50 registration fee and pledge to raise at least £2,000 for the Stroke Association.

Please set a reminder to ensure that you also apply to the ballot as we are always hugely over-subscribed for our charity places, so this will increase your chances of getting a prestigious 2023 TCS London Marathon place.

Own Place

If you have been lucky enough to secure your own place in the 2023 TCS London Marathon ballot, we would love to welcome you to #TeamStroke, please choose the ‘Own Place’ registration option. There’s no registration fee or minimum fundraising pledge, with everything you raise helping to fund our vital work. You will receive exactly the same support as those with a charity place. We do however have a £300 minimum sponsorship requirement to attend our post-race party.

Virtual Marathon Own Place

If you're joining the Marathon with your own Virtual Marathon place, we would love to welcome you to the #TeamStroke virtual team, please choose the ‘Virtual Own Place’ registration option. There’s no registration fee or minimum fundraising pledge, with everything you raise helping to fund our vital work. You will receive the same support from our team as those taking part in the physical London Marathon.

  • Stroke Association running top plus iron-on letters.
  • Regular team emails with training and fundraising tips.

Challenge information

Join #TeamStroke in one of the toughest challenges yet!

Ring O' Fire is a coastal ultra-marathon that takes runners on an extraordinary 135-mile journey around the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. The epic foot race is staged over three consecutive days and follows the rugged and spectacular Anglesey Coastal Path.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Snowdonia mountain range, runners will challenge themselves in some of the most awe-inspiring coastal scenery in the British Isles. Beauty aside, the extreme distance and variable terrain has sealed the race's reputation as one of the most challenging ultra-marathons in the British Isles.

There is also the offer to run Day One of the Ring O’ Fire as a separate race - the Firelighter. If you prefer a single-stage race over a shorter distance, this may be the race for you. This 35.7-mile race is still a very challenging ultra-marathon in its own right.

Registration and fundraising options

Charity sponsorship - you pay a registration fee, do lots of fundraising and we’ll cover the cost of your event place!  If you attempt the event and meet the minimum fundraising target, your registration fee will be refunded by the Ring O’ Fire challenge organisers.

  • Firelighter (35.7 miles / 1-day challenge): Registration fee £50 with a minimum fundraising target of £250, not including Gift Aid.
  • Ring O’ Fire (135 miles / 3-day challenge): Registration fee £100 with a minimum fundraising target of £500, not including Gift Aid.

Self-fund - you pay the full cost of the event place - fundraise whatever you want, with no set target or deadline, and there’s no cost at all to the charity!

  • Firelighter: £89
  • Ring O’ Fire: £245

Why join #TeamStroke?

Everyone deserves to live the best life they can after a stroke. Taking part in the Ring O’ Fire Ultra Marathon Challenge means you are part of the team helping to rebuild lives after a stroke.

Along the way, we will support you with training tips, fundraising advice and one-to-one support: cheering you on every step of the way.

Book a place

Please note, this is not a Stroke Association organised event.  For full details of prices and to sign up, please visit the Ring O’ Fire event website.
