Join us and help support stroke survivors and their family by running the infamous Great North Run in September 2018. Since 1981, the world's greatest half marathon (13.1 miles) has seen over one million people cross the finish line in South Shields and we're looking forward to seeing you joining #TeamStroke and crossing the world famous finish line too.

The course

Starting in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the 13.1-mile route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge, where you might get a glimpse of the Red Arrows passing overhead.

From there runners will travel through Gateshead while being entertained by our Bands on the Run. The route, lined by thousands of supporters, leads runners to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights along the whole course. From there it's just over a mile to go and the crowds get louder as runners make their way down the final straight towards the finish line.

At the finish line runners will be greeted with congratulations, a free masseuse and plenty of tea.

Charity place

Beat the ballot and sign up with #TeamStroke before January 2018 and you’ll only pay £15. That’s over 70% off the price of a space through the general ballot with no worrying about whether or not you’ll get a space in the race. #TeamStroke spaces come with a £350 sponsorship pledge but our fundraising team is on hand to support you throughout your fundraising.

Own place

Registration of own place runners will begin in February when the ballot is announced. Those who secure their own place through the ballot or membership will have no minimum sponsorship target, and everything you raise for us will go towards helping stroke survivors.

What happens next

After registering with #TeamStroke you will receive an email from WorldPay confirming your payment and an email from us confirming you have a space on Team Stroke in the 2018 Great North Run.
